INTERSCAPE – International Network of the Polytechnics of the Arts

From February 12 to 15, 2026, Bergamo hosts INTERSCAPE, a four-day event featuring distributed exhibitions, musical performances, and a conference, all part of the third edition of the Tono Festival.

INTERSCAPE is the concluding act of the “INPA – International Network of the Polytechnics of the Arts” project, an initiative funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU – PNRR (Mission 4: “Education and Research”) funds via the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). The project, coordinated by the Polytechnic of the Arts of Bergamo as the lead partner, involved over 60 students and professors in an articulated training and research path aimed at innovating artistic education through the implementation of interdisciplinary practices. The project is founded on a solid academic network involving the collaboration of several national Higher Education Institutions for Art and Music (Academy of Fine Arts, “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory of Music and ISIA Design of Florence; “Albertina” Academy of Fine Arts and “Giuseppe Verdi” State Conservatory of Music of Turin; Academy of Fine Arts and “G. Verdi” Conservatory of Music of Ravenna; Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts of Genoa) and prominent international partners, including Universidad de Granada, Escuela Universitaria de Artes TAI, Hochschule Luzern (HSLU), and Academy of Arts Novi Sad.

The heart of the project will be presented to the public starting Thursday, February 12, the opening day of events related to INPA. The INTERSCAPE exhibition, curated by Bianca Trevisan and Daniele Maffeis and hosted simultaneously in the spaces of GAMeC Spazio Zero, Palazzo della Libertà, and the Giacomo Carrara Academy of Fine Arts, will gather artistic and musical projects created by the students. A distributed exhibition that puts visual installations, multimedia works, and sound interventions into dialogue, transforming the exhibition spaces into a true landscape to be traversed. During the inauguration and in the following days, the exhibition will be animated by live musical performances, curated by Umberto Pedraglio and conceived as an integral part of the exhibition path. Culminating moments will be the Concert (Friday, February 13, reservation required) and the Musical Performances (Saturday, February 14, free access at 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM) of unpublished compositions for Soprano, Piano, Tuba, and Live electronics created by INTERSCAPE students and conducted by Maestro Fabian Panisello at the G. Carrara Academy of Fine Arts.

The Project

A founding element of the project vision is the programmatic convergence between Musical Arts and Visual Arts: disciplinary fields that find an institutional synthesis in the model of the Polytechnic of the Arts of Bergamo. INTERSCAPE synthesizes the adopted methodological paradigm: the term reflects the fusion between the dimensions of Internationalization and Interdisciplinarity applied to the investigation of Landscape. This linguistic crasis defines not only the object of research but the modus operandi itself: the constitution of a transnational space of inquiry where artistic and musical languages operate in synergy to generate shared educational models and new expressive syntheses.

The path was articulated in five methodological phases, from preliminary theoretical research to the international Summer School in July 2025, passing through the Autumn School in October, the production of works with individual consulting, and finally, the public presentation. The initiative benefited from the supervision of visiting professors such as Brandon LaBelle, José Manuel López López, Fabian Panisello, and Stefano Romano. Through a practice-based research approach, creative production was used as a primary tool of investigation to generate new theoretical and critical knowledge.

The INTERSCAPE project reflects on the contemporary landscape understood not as objective data, but as a living reality born from the dynamic relationship between humans and the environment. The works on display highlight how sound and image can interact to build complex perceptual spaces, overcoming disciplinary distinctions to merge languages into a single cognitive horizon. In this scenario, the spectator is called to active participation that integrates listening and vision, transforming simple observation into a deep immersive experience. The landscape thus reveals itself not so much as an object of representation, but as a field of tensions between different dimensions: memory and transformation, nature and artifice, the individual and the surrounding space. The landscape becomes, ultimately, a shared testing ground, where the specific skills of each discipline dialogue to generate knowledge that emerges from the continuous interaction between the senses and the territory.
